Project Announcement – Emergency Shutdown Devices

WestWater have successfully won a tender with the Water Corporation for the supply of 46 Emergency Shutdown Devices for various chlorination facilities throughout the Kimberley and Pilbara Regions in Western Australia.

WestWater’s proprietary “ChlorShield” Emergency Shutdown Device is an automatic emergency isolation device designed for use with chlorine cylinders and drums in areas such as water treatment and industrial plants. It is intended to shut the primary isolation valves on these containers in the event of detecting a significant gaseous chlorine leak. The main benefit of ChlorShield is to protect personnel and public from exposure to chlorine gas as well as to protect plant and equipment from accelerated corrosion caused by a gas leak while the installation is unattended.

  • Automatic emergency isolation device
  • Protects staff and the general public
  • Protects plant and equipment against corrosion
  • Detects chlorine gas and activates alarms (only with leak detectors installed)
  • Shuts down gas cylinders or drums
  • 12V DC electric actuator(s)
  • 20 hour battery back-up
  • Compatible with any brand of regulator

All aspects of the design will be completed in accordance with Water Corporation design standards and Australian Standards.

The project is expected to reach Practical Completion by June 2026.
