Challenge the client faced:
Both Capel Water Treatment Plant and Donnybrook Water Treatment Plant are supplied ground water from local bore sites close to the water treatment plants in each town.
The Water Corporation (WC) was directed by the Department of Health (DoH) to dose fluoride at both sites to meet a target fluoride residual rate of 0.80mg/L by April 2025.
The new fluoride dosing systems also need to keep up with peak demand during the summer months of 3.0ML/day at Capel and 4.0ML/day at Donnybrook.
Solution provided:
WestWater have designed and constructed two new modular Fluoride Dosing Facilities in the South West region of Western Australia – one at Capel WTP and one at Donnybrook WTP.
Both Fluoride Dosing Facilities use a batching process to dissolve Sodium Fluoride (NaF) in powder form into water (becoming a 4% solution), which is then dosed into the main water line on site to provide the required fluoride residual in the water.
Conclusion / project outcome:
Capel WTP
- The new Fluoride Dosing Facility is capable of dosing up to a peak treatment plant capacity of 3.0 ML/day.
- The Capel drinking water supply also meets DoH requirements of fluoride concentration range of 0.7 – 0.9 mg/L, with a target set point of 0.8 mg/L
Donnybrook WTP
- The new Fluoride Dosing Facility is capable of dosing up to a peak treatment plant capacity of 4.0 ML/day.
- The Donnybrook drinking water supply also meets DoH requirements of fluoride concentration range of 0.7 – 0.9 mg/L, with a target set point of 0.8 mg/L
