Challenge the client faced:
The Thompson St WTP delivers the bulk of Esperance’s potable water supply from three borefields located to west of the treatment plant.
The raw water has a natural fluoride content of approximately 0.4-0.5mg/L.
Currently the treatment plant doses Chlorine, Calgon and Sodium Fluoride.
The Water Corporation (WC) has been directed by the Department of Health (DoH) to ensure the WTP meets a target fluoride residual rate of 0.90mg/L.
Solution provided:
WestWater have completed the installation of upgrades to the sodium fluoride batching and dosing system on site.
The new fluoride dosing plant uses a batching process to dissolve Sodium Fluoride (NaF) in powder form into water (becoming a 4% solution), which is then dosed into the main water line on site to provide the required fluoride residual in the water.
Once mixed and settled, the saturated solution is automatically decanted into the clear solution tank for final chemical supply to the dosing pumps.
Conclusion / project outcome:
These upgrades completed by WestWater will enable the Water Corporation to achieve an increase in performance and reliability of the dosing plant going forward.
