WestWater have successfully won a tender with the Water Corporation for the design and installation of an electrically actuated gate valve at the Kununurra Wastewater Treatment Plant, located in the Kimberley Region of Western Australia.
The Kununurra WWTP features ponds that flow via gravity and discharge out to the M1 Ord Irrigation channel after chlorination. The power to this site is unreliable and often trips shutting down the chlorinator resulting in un-chlorinated effluent being discharged into the M1 channel.
The scope of this project is to install a battery backed ‘fail-to-close’ actuated gate valve below ground to shut off the outflow temporarily in the event of a power failure or chlorination shutdown. The project also involves installation of a level measuring instrument on the outflow manhole between Ponds 4A and 4B to monitor pond levels for a potential overflow event.
All aspects of the works will be completed in accordance with the Contract, Water Corporation Standards and Australian Standards.
The project is expected to reach Practical Completion in early 2023.
