Project Announcement – Rio Tinto Gove Operations Chlorine Gas Removal, NT

 

WestWater have successfully won a tender with Rio Tinto Gove Operations (RTGO) to convert 3 of their gas chlorination facilities to Electro-chlorination in the town of Nhulunbuy, Northern Territory. This project marks the finalisation of RTGO’s chlorine gas removal scheme for which WestWater have been instrumental in achieving by having completed similar conversions on two of their other plants in the community.

The first project as part of the scheme was completed in September 2019, and by January 2021 all 5 gas chlorination facilities within the community will have been converted, with the risk of chlorine gas successfully eliminated.

All aspects of the works to upgrade the chlorination facilities in Nhulunbuy will be completed in accordance with the Contract, Rio Tinto Standards and Australian Standards.

The project is expected to reach Practical Completion by January 2021.
